Your data stays on your device
MEDIUP stores all data (journal, playlists, timer settings) exclusively on your device. No data is ever sent to any external server, no account is required, and there is no tracking of any kind. This applies to both the Android app and the Chrome extension.
๐ฑ Android App
1. What data the Android app stores
The MEDIUP Android app stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Journal entries โ titles, artists and URLs of media you've played, stored in a local SQLite database
- Playlist โ tracks you've manually added to your queue
- Schedule items โ URLs and times you've scheduled for auto-launch
- Timer settings โ stop/start timer configuration (cleared after firing)
- Premium status โ whether you've purchased the PRO upgrade, stored in SharedPreferences
This data never leaves your device.

2. Android permissions explained
- Notification Listener โ Reads media notifications from other apps (Spotify, YouTube, etc.) to detect what's currently playing. MEDIUP only reads the track title, artist and app name.
- Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) โ Fires stop/start timers and scheduled items at exact times, even when the app is in the background.
- System Alert Window โ Shows the optional floating overlay button when media starts playing (PRO feature).
- Boot Completed โ Restores scheduled alarms after device restart.
- Notifications โ Shows timer notifications when a timer fires (e.g. "Playback stopped").
- Internet โ Used only for displaying ads in the free version via Google AdMob. No user data is transmitted.

3. Advertising (Android)
The free version of the Android app displays banner ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad interaction data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. PRO users see no ads.
MEDIUP itself does not collect, store or transmit any personal data beyond what AdMob handles independently.

4. In-App Purchases (Android)
The PRO upgrade is processed through the Google Play billing system. MEDIUP does not collect or store any payment information. All billing is handled by Google.

5. What data the Chrome extension stores
The MEDIUP Chrome extension stores the following data locally in your browser only via chrome.storage.local:
- Journal entries โ titles and URLs of media you've played
- Playlist โ tracks you've manually added to your queue
- Timer settings โ stop/start/schedule timers (cleared after firing)
- Now Playing state โ temporary cache of currently playing media info
This data never leaves your browser and can be cleared at any time.

6. Chrome permissions explained
- storage โ Saves journal, playlist and timer data locally in your browser.
- alarms โ Fires timers at exact times, even when the popup is closed.
- tabs โ Opens scheduled URLs and navigates to the correct tab for playback control.
- scripting โ Injects playback control scripts into YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud tabs.
- notifications โ Shows desktop notifications when a timer fires.
- Host permissions โ Detects and controls media on YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud and other sites.
7. Data sharing
MEDIUP (both Android and Chrome) does not:
- Collect, transmit or sell any user data
- Use analytics or tracking services (except AdMob in free Android version)
- Require account creation or login
- Access your browsing history or contacts
- Read or store content of web pages or media files
8. Third-party services
MEDIUP interacts with YouTube, Spotify, YouTube Music, VLC and SoundCloud solely to control media playback (play, pause, detect track info). It does not access your accounts, subscriptions or personal data from these services.
9. Children's privacy
MEDIUP does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. As no personal data is collected, both versions are safe for all ages.
10. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new effective date. Significant changes will be noted in release notes on Google Play and the Chrome Web Store.
